Before you ever start driving abroad, you have to make plans for doing so. First and foremost, consider the country you will be visiting. Either by talking to your own insurance company or agent, or by researching the subject yourself with the help of the internet, you need to discover what the car insurance laws are in that country.
For example, when driving in Canada, you have to have at least two hundred thousand dollars worth of liability insurance. You do not want to be driving in a different country, get into an accident, and only then discover that you do not have nearly the amount of insurance that you need to have by law in that country.
Once you have discovered what those laws, minimums, and qualifications are, you need to begin by talking to your agent anyway. If your company has offices abroad, you should be able to get the insurance you need through them. Otherwise, you may need some help from another insurance company.
